Original Music Festival

Original Music Festival

Inspiration. A chance for local Musicians to perform their ORIGINAL works, and for public to see what is happening in their local music culture across any genre. A large scale event over two venues with a energetic dancing vibe upstairs and a more relaxed sit and clap environment downstairs. To launch TheFieldCreative and foster the arts, diversity and creative thinking for our long-term future.

Communication. The concept was proposed to the team and brainstormed; it was decided to host both the Creative Expo and the Original Music Festival on the same day, a morning event and an evening event on August 27th, 2005. Teams were formed to facilitate each event, inviting musicians later ensued.

Collaboration. Key activities were identified and one or more people took on each task. There were many technical requirements for sound and lighting. As a University Club we had access to facilities and equipment, however more was required and a grant for finance was attained. It was a complex event and a few arising issues ensured a mammoth team effort on the night.

Thanks again to the team! This time plus the hiTY to Andy, Janelle, Nikki, Jo, Steph, Vince & Lex. Cheers to Paul, Karl & possie, Nikunj and Sikander, with specialist skills made it possible!

Creation. Upstairs hosted dance grooves including funk, roots, metal, trance with vj’s, hip hop and rock. Downstairs hosted jazz, harp, folk, soft rock, reggae and chinese flute. It was an R18 event with bar facilities available, to the audience of over 500 on the night. Setup of audio and visual equipment began at noon on the day, cleanup went well into the am and resumed the following morning.

Exhibition. We exhibited that it can be done, there were plans for follow-up media about the team, the events, and the next propositions but the entire team was burnt out with cleanup and other loose ends to attend to and the follow-up lapsed. Photo, video and written documentation is here to exhibit the event.

Repeat. This was a large scale event that required a large team including demands for technical experience, it was great practical event management experience for all involved. Team feedback said that our team of volunteers was too small for such an ambitious venture, that said we took it on, gave local musicians an exhibition platform, set the stage and completed the mission.
